Patented BroadBand™ processing using coded pulses offers high single-ping velocity measurement precision.
  • Facilitates excellent station keeping (hover) and real time vehicle control capability.
  • Allows trade-off of lower power consumption versus navigation accuracy. Ping rate can be reduced without serious loss of velocity measurement precision thus saving transmitted power.
  • BroadBand™ processing and auto correlation techniques improve station keeping and slow speed maneuvers by eliminating the ‘Rayleigh fades’ and noise issues associated with other signal processing techniques

Four beams provide

  • Beam redundancy, allowing continued operation in the event of a blocked beam or beam failure.
  • Error velocity data allowing calculation of short-term measurement uncertainty.
  • Continued bottom tracking in irregular seabed topography (three-dimensional solution must have at least three valid beam measurements).
  • Real time range to bottom measurements for all four beams and an average depth (altitude) provides a sophisticated Altimeter facility that is accurate between 1 – 4% selectable by adjusting the ping rate.

Patented bottom detection

  • Single ping bottom location means that we relocate the bottom on a ping-by-ping basis allowing robust and reliable bottom tracking even in changing seabed conditions and uneven terrain.
  • Patented algorithm with over 10 years of BroadBand™ bottom tracking experience over a wide variety of conditions.

Automatic switching between BroadBand™ pulse coherent and non-pulse coherent modes of operation

  • Facilitates low altitude (0.5 to 4.0 metres) bottom tracking.
  • Extremely high precision for maintaining position accuracy during station keeping at low altitudes.

Water mass (reference layer) processing provides

  • The ability to obtain continued measurement of vehicle velocity relative to water volume. This "Flywheel" effect allows continued navigation in areas of deeper water and where bottom track may be lost.
  • Enables significant reductions in the Kalman filter position error of integrated navigation systems during bottom tracking outages.
  • Alternating bottom and water mass pings can be used to estimate current in the layer and vehicle speed through the water.

Automatic Gain Control based on signal strength

  • Adjusts for scenarios where high volume backscatter is generated such as disturbed sediment & low visibility conditions.
  • Enables reliable tracking in a variety of seabed materials and compositions even when the acoustic "brightness" of the reflected signal may vary.
